My daughter suffers with Migraines and needs complete darkness.
We have tried dark colored mini blind and window shades but even a crack of sunlight is pain full. Are there any ideas from other Migraine sufferers that might help? Any web sites that offer window treatment would be welcome.

You can get black out for your windows its like window tenting on a car but for your home windows it is fairly cheap and u can get it at places like home depot and lowes. I’m sure Walmart even has it and to be on the safe side you can have the blinds up and they have black out shades. And if you just want, try to put velcro on the shades and stick it together.

Draperies used for home theaters are often the best at blocking light. They are usually much heavier than standard draperies as they are designed to darken a home theater, often during daylight hours.
What you need to do is layer your window treatments and make use of valences as well as the sheers and drapes themselves. Unlike with normal drapes, where the end of the drape is attached to the traverse rod itself, you will need to attach the drapes to the supporting arm. At the moving end of the traverse rod, create a greater overlap to further seal against sunlight coming through. At the top of the drapery, and behind the valence, you will need to add material to block sunlight from entering above the draperies.

I have sheets of foam core that I stick up with adheasive-backed Velcro to cover the windows. The 2×2 Velcro tabs are about 2 inches in from the edge of the board and the board has a 1/4 thick by 1 inch wide strip of foam running around the outside edge.
When I need the extra darkness, I pop these babies up in less than a minute (I store them under the bed) and close the curtains and it gets really dark.
It took me about a hour to set this up, not counting the time to shop for supplies from the craft/hobby store. Total cost was about $ 35 for 4 windows.
EDIT: I have a coworker who bought a second set of storm windows and then painted the inside of them with one coat of white paint followed by 2 coats of flat black spray paint. While not a cheap and more inconvient, it works very, very well. In her case the windows are in the back of the house and are covered all of the time. They look white from the outside and flat black from the inside.

I got a cellular shade that comes with tracks on the sides so its completely dark I think it was called slumber shade. I bought it from NY Window Treatment.
