Door Window Panel Coverings

Door panels are typically composed of two rod pockets to fit over rods at the top and bottom of the door. This is actually advisable, considering it would imply that you can open and close the door sans the curtain swinging or getting trapped in the door.

These panels are available in various colors and fabrics, they include those with patterns. They can blend with any décor. You can go for sheer fabrics that will allow more light to seep through, while heavier materials come with more privacy. Majority of styles can either cover the door fully from side to side or be pulled together in the middle with a matching tie-back.

Another kind is one that you can raise and lower much like window shades. At daylight, you could pull the shade up and let it stay there without getting in the way with tabs that were attached for such purpose. Come nighttime, you can release the tabs and allow the shade to come down and cover the window. There are shades like this that have self-adhesive closures that you can use to attach to the door at the bottom when they are closed.

If you have French doors or a door with sidelights at home, you can opt for matching door panels to separately give coverings for each of them. These ones are made to fit standard sized doors and sidelights, and by separately buying each panel, you can buy them to fit whatever configuration you have. These door panel window covering sets will make your doors look amazing while giving you more privacy.

How do I take measurements for curtains that will be hung over vertical blinds?

Question by ninfragile19: How do I take measurements for curtains that will be hung over vertical blinds?
I have a sliding glass door in my living room that goes out to the deck. I recently hung vertical blinds over the door, but am looking to put up a curtain as well for extra light blocking and hopefully to trap in some heat.

What is the best way to measure for curtains so that there the curtains will be wide enough and tall enough?

Answer by seamstress

First and foremost, you will need to get a curtain rod that has brackets to extend past the projection of the vertical blinds when they are tilted open. This projection can be up to five inches or more.

There are several curtain rods to consider, depending on the look you are after. If you go with a telescoping metal rod and use drapery rings in the header (top section) of the drapery, then the area where the rod telescopes will constantly catch on the rings, causing frustration when you open and close the drapes. In this case, take a piece of scotch tape and make a small “ramp” as you wrap the tape to build up the height and gradually eliminate the difference in rod thicknesses at the telescoping intersection. This scenario can be avoided if you use a wooden seamless rod.

A traverse rod is operated by pulling strings to open and close the drapes, usually with a pleated header, which are on little hooks that go into sliders in the rod.

A regular pole rod, whether it be metal or wooden, used with a pocket header, causes the drapery difficult to maneuver as it is pulled open and closed, usually causing tearing over the course of time.

Now, for measuring. Most sliders will take a standard 84 inch long curtain panel. Make sure your rod is hung correctly so it will accommodate draperies that are 84″ long so you do not have to go through the expense in having the drapery hemmed. For the fullness (left to right measurement), the drapery panels should equal two and a half times the rod length. I say rod length instead of slider width because you may select to install your rod slightly overlapping the wall as to have a place for the drapery to stack, allowing more sunlight into the room when the drapery is open.

I hope this information has been helpful in selecting the right application for your window treatment.

What type of french door window treatment would look good in a room that has white window shutters?

Question by Curious Me: What type of french door window treatment would look good in a room that has white window shutters?
My family room has white window shutters. My dilemma is what type of window treatment to install for my french doors which are in the same room. I don’t want to use something that will clash with the white shutters.

Why would you want to put “window treatments” (curtains?) on a French door? The purpose of a French door is to let light pass through so I don’t understand why you would want to block that or clutter up the door with useless “decor.”. If you absolutely need something over the glass for privacy, the only thing I’ve ever seen that looked decent on French doors is top and bottom rod-shirred sheer or lace in ivory or white. Since your shutters are white, use white.

Can you put a window treatment on a metal door?

Question by Angelique: Can you put a window treatment on a metal door?
My front door is steel with an oval window in it. I want to put a roman shade on it because the late afternoon sun comes in and causes a glare on the TV. My hubby says you can’t put a curtain on a metal door. I’d like to prove him wrong.

They make curtain rods that are magnetic. If you can find one that will hold the kind of window covering you want, you will win!

You can drill and mount any kind of shade you want, but it will have to be permanent. The holes will always be there.

HOME DECOR – What type of blinds/window treatment should I use for the window in my front door?

Question by J A: HOME DECOR – What type of blinds/window treatment should I use for the window in my front door?
I have an exterior (front) door with some glazing/a window in it, approx 24″ x 36″ in size. For privacy/security reasons I need to cover over this window at night. I haven’t yet been able to find anything suitable – light enough, easy enough to open, easy to install on the door. Does anyone make blinds or covers specifically for this purpose? Or has anyone come up with a DIY solution?

Best answer:

Answer by Elspeth
I’ve seen some blinds advertised for doors that are encased in two panes of glass. They don’t need dusting. They can be pulled up to enjoy the view or lowered to provide privacy. I’m not sure what company makes them, but I think I saw it on HGTV.

A DIY solution: You could hang drapes across the top of the door with tie backs that could be drawn at night. Sorta like a victorian parlor treatment.

Hope that helps.

You can buy spray paints to tint, stained glass looking coatings to stick on. Check the Hardware or home supply store.

Another option would be self sticking window films that come in frost types and “stained glass” types. The link below is some that I found at Home Depot. Cut it to size, very carefully, and then just stick to glass.

Treat Your Window The Right Way

As much as you don’t want to admit it, whenever you visit some else’s house you tend to become a self proclaimed architect or interior designer. From the looks of the gate and the walls, the front porch and the garden, the main door, the receiving room of the house up to the most little piece of furniture there is, you find yourself with thoughts running in your head and you keenly criticize each and every one of them. Among the things you can observe in a house, the window is a favorite. It may be of standard size or may extend up to the ceiling, it has that ability to attract the people that pay trips to your home.

Window treatments have progressed a lot from the past years. It is no longer just a mere opening on the wall for an avenue of fresh air from the outside or an option to go in and out of the house if the door is not accessible. It has evolved into becoming an icon of character and style to one’s place. Basically, it is more stylish and functional now.

Under the umbrella of the window treatments belong the blinds, curtains, shades, coverings and sheers. These things also come in different colors to suit your personal taste. Other than that, the design scheme also includes a variety of textures just like paper, plastic, glass, grass and bamboo. There is a current campaign trend in utilizing environment friendly materials that are not only helping in saving mother earth but also provides natural beauty to whatever room you are decorating.

If you are creating a window for let us say a bedroom and you wish for consistency then you can opt for a monochromatic design. You can choose pieces from your room such as the color or design and inject it to the parts of your window. This way your room will look uniform and organized.

Investing time and effort in decorating a window will give fulfillment to the home owner most especially if he or she is very particular when it comes to function and aesthetics. Take care of those windows. You will never know what might go in through that someday.

My bedroom has an east-facing sliding door. How do I block out all the light?

Question by : My bedroom has an east-facing sliding door. How do I block out all the light?
There is a balcony outside and I am thinking of building a vertical sunshade of some kind to help block the sun. Would I be better off doing this or spending more on inside window treatments? The heat is absolutely astonishing. Top floor of a double A-frame.

I purchased room-darkening curtains from J.C. Penny’s and they don’t darken good at all. So I purchased another set of curtains and put another curtain rod up. Now I have two curtains in one window and it blocks out the light and all that hot sun. You could still build a sun blind of some sort if you wish, and have curtains too. You would probably only need one set of curtains if you have the sun blind tho. Good luck.

What treatment I should take for my old door, window frames?

Question by Chad: What treatment I should take for my old door, window frames?
My doors and windows are all kinda natural maple wood color. Now they looks pretty old with a lot of dust. I want to clean them up, and apply some kinda transparent paint or something to make them look nice. I don’t want to apply some other color, because I do like the natural wood color. Can someone help me on what steps I should take, what type of paint, stain or other stuff I need to use?
Thanks.

Hi!

The best thing to do with them in my view is to seal any knots, fill the cracks and holes, prime and paint them as per your wish.Choosing your paint wisely will determine how well it will last and wear. Whether to use latex or oil-based, alkyds or acrylics depends on the surface to be covered, the conditions it will face, and any base paint underneath. So select the paint type as per the requirements.

The alternate solution is you can go for the wooden blinds.Due to the comfort factor people are extensively using wooden blinds for their windows. The curtains are losing out in the race as they have to be regularly changed and cleaned. In terms of wooden blinds it has to be said that they require least cleaning.

Sliding Door Window Treatment?

Question by tia r: Sliding Door Window Treatment?
Is there any contemporary window treatment for a sliding door. Currently we have blinds, but our kids constantly play outside and go in and out all day long. We have to always change out the blinds. Furthermore, I just think the blinds take away from the design, but I can’t think of anything that can be used other than blinds. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Answer by ginny
You can use curtains, just make the rod extends beyond the door far enough so that you can pull them back in the daytime for the kids.
