Taking Your Window Treatments To A New Level

Windows act as the eyes of the home. It lets you see the outside world and at the same time gives style to the home’s décor. The following ideas will help give oomph to your window treatments.

Button embellishments give emphasis to your window treatments. They give edge to your traditional window treatments. Sewing retailer or craft stores have an assortment of beautiful buttons. You can find different styles, themes, and colors. Opt for ones which completely blend with the drapery colors in the room. Put these button embellishments several inches apart toward the bottom of your window treatments, working your way up.

Furthermore, vintage dresser scarves give a touch of elegance to your window treatment. Before, they just protect the tops of long dressers. Now, they can now be transformed into a scarf valance. The length makes it perfect, and they have a classy appeal.

To have that vintage dresser scarf, you should install a posh café rod. After installing it, play around with draping or wrapping the scarf to get a nice-looking valance. You can purchase vintage scarves from resale shops, consignment shops, and at yard sales.

Glass beading is also an outstanding window treatment option. You could make use of glass beads to produce your own window treatment. You can buy them in almost all discount or craft stores.

After picking the beads that you want, creating the window treatment will be simple. You just have to use heavy invisible thread or fishing line and string the beads onto the thread. It must be long enough for your window. Have each beaded string hung from a cafe rod. Continue making strands of beads up to the point that the bead curtain is wide enough that you can place it on the window.

Obviously, window treatments aren’t always be prepackaged and ready-to-use. These are just only a few of the many ideas you might want to consider when beautifying your windows. Squeeze out your creative juices and create customize looks that will make your homes prettier than ever!

any ideas for casement window curtain treatments ?

Question by Patricia G: any ideas for casement window curtain treatments ?

Best answer:

Answer by rk_king2004

Consider the style, size, and shape of the window, and what you want the curtains for. Think about the room, its proportions and what it’s used for, the upholstery, and accessories. Curtains can be hung from rods in a number of ways.

Although most are functional rather than stylish, some decorative types are available. The right choice will not only enhance the window but also turn an ordinary room into a really special place.

Here are ten household helpful hints for choosing curtains:

1. Match curtain fabric with upholstery to unify space that seems untidy.

2. Use carpet to mark off space. A rug is ideal for establishing a social zone within a room.

3. Fabrics with classic patterns give a period feeling to the ambience of a room.

4. Remember that the bed linen, tablecloths, and towels also contribute to decoration.

5. Sheer curtain and gauze enable us to filter light.

6. Venetian blinds allow control over the amount of light entering a room.

7. Do not limit curtains and blinds to just windows. They can be used in an excessively long passage or hallway. Blinds make good screens.

8. In rooms with a lot of pictures, different colored walls, or furniture, it is suitable to use neutral tones for the curtains and upholstery.

9. Take advance of fabrics by using them to renovate your furniture.

10. Use rugs and tapestries as hanging on a wall. Their color and texture are unbeatable and they improve acoustics.

Window treatment ideas?

Question by Samantha: Window treatment ideas?
We bought a new house couple months ago and the house has 13 windows, it’s crazy and we decided to buy some roman blinds for the rooms that way we don’t have to put up any curtains and bought some white wood blinds for the livingroom, family room and kitchen area. Now I was thinking about putting valance ( I think that’s what they’re called, the top part only) over the bay window and maybe some light curtains on the rest of the windows. I wanted some ideas, also can you leave it alone and not put any curtains since we have these nice wood blinds or its must to cover them up? The hardest thing is the bay window so far..

Best answer:

Answer by Morgan
One of the newest trends in design is to leave the windows uncovered! It lets light in & is very uncluttered. The only rule is that you only leave windows open where people aren’t looking in on you. So if your bathroom or bedroom faces the street or your neighbor’s yard–then cover those up. (Frosted windows look cool in bathrooms. You can buy sheets of window “frosting” at any hardware store. It’s easy to put on.)

Just do standard flat panel curtains in a really great fabric. You can easily make your own curtains even if you don’t sew using hot glue or heming tape & an iron.

If you can, leave the bay window open. They’re so pretty!

I’m looking for window treatment ideas for our sidelight windows. ?

Question by Panda02: I’m looking for window treatment ideas for our sidelight windows. ?
We have two sidelight windows and I would like a little more privacy. It creeps me out that people can walk up to the door and see all the way into our living room. Other than wood blinds, do you have any suggestions? Are the sheers with the tension rods kind of outdated or is that still used a lot? Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Juan M

I have 2 sidelights next to my front door, both are about 6 ft tall by 8 in wide & are clear glass, starting at a few inches above the floor. I would like to cover them to add a little ‘something’ to my foyer but also because it drives me crazy that anyone walking in front of or up to the house can see directly in, all the way into my family room which is behind the foyer.

I was originally going to do the ‘traditional’ sidelight sheers that are sort of bunchy the top & bottom rods, but then thought perhaps that was a dated look. I know some people do blinds, but we don’t have blinds on any of our other downstairs windows .

window treatment ideas for tall windows?

Question by H R: window treatment ideas for tall windows?
I have 18 foot ceilings in my living room. I would really like to add some sort of window treatment, we have shades right now, but with the tall ceilings, it just seems sort of empty, its also sort of a weird shaped alcove. the apartment managers don’t mind if I add curtains so thats all fine. theres a picture of the space (not mine but a model):

any ideas what I should do?

You should add stationary side panels the full height of the windows to them. Maybe add some interesting decorative hardware. It looks like your house is contemporary. I am not sure what your color scheme is. If you use a really large scale print 27″+ repeat it could look fabulous if you want to add some interest. Or if you want to keep it simple use a sheer. they have very interesting ones It looks like you have the privacy/fading issue covered with the blind. Also you might not be able to do a stationary panel next to the fireplace it is hard to tell. I think a “top” treatment would look like an amateur did it . Maybe you should hire a designer on a consultation basis if you want to do it yourself. I would advise having a pro do it.

Ideas, please, to help keep my kitchen from looking too dark?

Question by Sarah M: Ideas, please, to help keep my kitchen from looking too dark?
I’m in the middle of redecorating my kitchen. Appliances are a mixture of black and stainless steel, walls are terra cotta, accent wall is sandy-colored, light oak wood laminate floors, black cabinets, white countertops. Any suggestions for nice, bright accents (rugs, window treatments) to keep it from looking too dark? Please and thank you!

Answer by JAP
I would suggest a short white sheer valance for your window treatments. As for a color to “pop” in your kitchen, I think green would coordinate with all the other colors. I’m thinking of bright green bottles or vases on your window sill, if possible. Maybe a bowl of limes or granny smith apples. Or a lime green colored jar candle. Just enough to add a splash of color. As for the rugs, I’m thinking they’re going to have to be a shade of white. You seem to have a good sense of style and decorating, so I know you can make this work. Good luck!

I need some ideas for inexpensive drapery panels or valances. I have two very large windows in my bedroom.?

Question by comet girl…DUCK!: I need some ideas for inexpensive drapery panels or valances. I have two very large windows in my bedroom.?
The measurements of each window are 102″ x 60″. Where can I get window treatments for these windows that won’t cost me an arm and a leg?

Answer by addiemae97
In January a lot of department stores have nice sales on linens and drapery, but a simple solution would be to use sheets they can be found fairly cheap you need to get top sheets. I use sheets for drapes in two bedrooms, and they look nice. Might take four sheets per window with your wide windows if you cannot sew you can glue them together.
