What kind of window treatments are best for a child’s room?

Question by Ray Alexander: What kind of window treatments are best for a child’s room?

Best answer:

Answer by James Hite
Sometimes simpler is better. Window treatments in a child’s room can really tie together all the decorating elements. Something charming, colorful, and effective in cutting the light is a perfect choice.
But kids’ rooms deserve special consideration. It’s important that any window covering chosen for a child’s room be safe, functional, colorful, stylish, and fun.

what kind of window treatment doesn’t require a screw?

Question by blah: what kind of window treatment doesn’t require a screw?
I just moved into an apartment complex where we can’t put screws in the wall. They have horizontal blinds in the window in my room, but they are quite old and terrible and offer little privacy. Are there any ways to hang window treatments that don’t involve screws or nails into the wall? What kind of windows or coverings are possible?

Thanks

Buy tension rods at the store, costs are $ 3 up to 10 depending on size. These rods have rubber caps that don’t mar the walls. You can hang anything from these rods. Look at the website http://overstock.com for cheap curtains, drapes and sheers

What kind of window treatment won’t my dogs destroy?

Question by aavery29@sbcglobal.net: What kind of window treatment won’t my dogs destroy?
We have curtains on our picture window and the dogs are constantly wrestling, getting wrapped up in them and tearing them down. We’ve had vertical blinds before and they stick their noses through them and mess them up too. I imagine mini blinds they’d do the same thing to. Should we just board up the window, or does someone have a suggestion?

Answer by Karen L
Cast iron shutters, maybe. There is no conventional window treatment that a dog can’t wreck. Mini-blinds could be damaged with one good swipe of a paw. If you can’t train the dogs or crate them so they stay out of the window area when you’re not around, then leave the window uncovered unless you are right there to prevent them from messing with them

Q&A: What kind of window treatments can I do for really tiny windows?

Question by .: What kind of window treatments can I do for really tiny windows?
The windows are in my bathroom on the largest shower wall so a curtain is a must. The windows are not flush with the walls, there’s about a 7″ box/legde. They are 14W” x 36L”. I was going to make some roman shades but I need them to be washable, usually they call for dowels and other wood. Also I have no way of putting hardware in because I’ll be going into the window frame itself.

Here’s what they look like:

Close up of the top…the only wood is the ceiling part and the sides:

What can I do? I’d rather make my own instead of buying. (I’m a seamstress so this is definitely do-able)
Yeah, we have a bit of a strange layout for our apartment.

An hour glass shape on each window or 1/2 a swag on each pane, a panel hanging on the wall in the middle would give the illusion of a bigger window. Use 1 rod for this.

I think your best bet wood be a stick on-not the frosted glass but kind of stained glass effect, not covering the whole pane. The punch of colour will look fantastic against those white tiles and there is minimal maintenance, cleaning and mildew.

Make sure your linens and accessories pick up/contrast the colour in the pattern.

What kind of window treatment should I use for these windows?

Question by Lady25: What kind of window treatment should I use for these windows?
I have three windows right next to each other in my living room and i don’t know what type of window treatment to use. A single rod straight across the top of all three and shears along side of each window??? I dont know what would look right. I have included a link (below) of pictures of my living room as well as these three windows. Please tell me what you think.

Thanks!

We bought that area rug just the other day, lol. Garden Ridge had it tagged for $ 129.99, but for whatever reason it rang up for 39.99…what a bargain!

I have very similar windows in my living room. What I did was, a valance all the way across the top of all 3 windows, and static drapes to the floor on the outside side of the 2 windows on the ends. It looks very nice and finished.
I would not do fabric on the side of each individual window because they’re so close together, you’d end up with more fabric than window showing. Since you have blinds, drapes are more decorative than useful anyway.

Because the furniture in that room is so dark, I’d go with a lighter color for the drapes. A champange, Ivory, or a Light tan (lighter than the wall color) would all look lovely. You might also be able to use a sage green if it coordinates with the greens in the painting above the sofa. Something like watered silk would be very elegant.

What kind of fabric can I get for privacy and lets light in to make window treatment?

I like the idea of having wax paper on the window, it lets in light, but no one can see you because it’s all translucent.

You could get blinds and put up whatever curtains you want, the blinds will keep the curtains from fading quickly versus direct sunlight, or if you don’t want to put up blinds, you could just go with straight up gauzy type curtains. They let lots of light in but people cant see through them.

What kind of design like wall color and window treatments can I use with my new sofas? Pic of sofa!?

Question by working for the weekend!: What kind of design like wall color and window treatments can I use with my new sofas? Pic of sofa!?
My sofa is the top right..the greenish Loden. I call it the big comfy couch. The piping is a beige cream color and the posts are a deep dark mahagoney. http://www.furniturefair.net/products.cfm?categoryID=9

Id paint the walls in a color similar, but slightly darker, than the piping. Dark bamboo slat roman blinds on the windows. A dark brown leather arm chair and ottoman. Deep russet red and espresso brown accent cushions on the sofa.

What kind of window treatments give the most glamorous look?

Question by Pamela: What kind of window treatments give the most glamorous look?

Answer by breathe
It depends what kind of style you like. I love plantation shutters for a variety of reasons. They let in or keep out light very well, insulate your windows well and last a long time. They’re also classic so never go out of style. I like the wider slatted ones. They’re pretty expensive though! I’m getting ready to move out on my own again after divorce and won’t be able to afford them so I’m pondering about what to get on the windows at my next place. Maybe just simple mini blinds and nice curtains.

what kind of window treatments should I use on extremely small windows?

Question by secret: what kind of window treatments should I use on extremely small windows?
I live in the basement and I have a total of 3 windows which are extremely small. The ones in the study and the kitchen are 1 ft in height X 2 ft in length. The ones in the bedroom are 1 ft in height X 4 ft in length. These windows are located near the ceiling and not in the middle of the wall if that helps. Putting up regular sized curtains seem inappropriate and I’m scared it may overpower the look of the room. Not to mention it may look weird. What are some ways that i can cover up the windows for privacy reasons? Are curtains the only way to cover the windows and if so, what can I use? What are some alternative ways if there are any?

Best answer:

Answer by silverbull96
If you keep it simple by using a valance the small window will not be over dressed. Use a roman shade or blinds for privacy.
