This is my first time doing window treatments. What to do?

Question by LoyaLady: This is my first time doing window treatments. What to do?
My living room is painted orange and I have a white modern living room set with a few scroll designed traditional pieces. The space is not very large so I would like something that would keep the airy feel it has. My bedroom also needs window treatments and the walls are painted a green/mustard yellow color. I also have the same white modern love seat in my bedroom as a chaise. This room is also not very large. I have finally settled on the layout, but definitely need help with the window treatments since it is my first time. I welcome your suggestions. Please also be sure to include the texture and color(s).

I like sheer over sheer when privacy is not a issue. I would reverse the colors and put the color to match the wall under the white to keep the light feel If you hang them similar to the picture of the pink ones it should look nice.

Question by shally: what comes first in window measurement – width or height?
I want to buy window treatments online. Target shows the dimensions of window treatments as 60×80″. Is 60 the height & 80 the width or vice-versa?

Width is first, then height, then depth if it goes that far…for window treatments you might not need the depth measurement, but it tells you the thickness, such as how far it sticks out from the wall.

Question by Kristie: Making window treatments for the first time. Need help, guidance, ideas, tips or useful links please!?
Hi we just got a new house and I’d like to make my own window treatments. I would be sewing by hand but also have a hot glue gun :). I’ve never made window treatments and could use some simple suggestions, or useful links.

It would depend on what type of window treatments you are making–valances, curtains, shades. If you go to a fabric store for fabric then you may be able to get either a pamphlet or a book with instructions for whatever you want to make.
