I am looking for window blinds (or other window covering) that pull up from the bottom of the window.?

Or are there blinds that close by pulling up or down?

There are many blinds that close buy pulling down. Blinds that close by pulling up would be rather inconvenient unless the top of your windows were within arm’s reach.

I’m looking for window treatment ideas for our sidelight windows. ?

Question by Panda02: I’m looking for window treatment ideas for our sidelight windows. ?
We have two sidelight windows and I would like a little more privacy. It creeps me out that people can walk up to the door and see all the way into our living room. Other than wood blinds, do you have any suggestions? Are the sheers with the tension rods kind of outdated or is that still used a lot? Thanks!

I have 2 sidelights next to my front door, both are about 6 ft tall by 8 in wide & are clear glass, starting at a few inches above the floor. I would like to cover them to add a little ‘something’ to my foyer but also because it drives me crazy that anyone walking in front of or up to the house can see directly in, all the way into my family room which is behind the foyer.

I was originally going to do the ‘traditional’ sidelight sheers that are sort of bunchy the top & bottom rods, but then thought perhaps that was a dated look. I know some people do blinds, but we don’t have blinds on any of our other downstairs windows .

Ideas, please, to help keep my kitchen from looking too dark?

Question by Sarah M: Ideas, please, to help keep my kitchen from looking too dark?
I’m in the middle of redecorating my kitchen. Appliances are a mixture of black and stainless steel, walls are terra cotta, accent wall is sandy-colored, light oak wood laminate floors, black cabinets, white countertops. Any suggestions for nice, bright accents (rugs, window treatments) to keep it from looking too dark? Please and thank you!

I would suggest a short white sheer valance for your window treatments. As for a color to “pop” in your kitchen, I think green would coordinate with all the other colors. I’m thinking of bright green bottles or vases on your window sill, if possible. Maybe a bowl of limes or granny smith apples. Or a lime green colored jar candle. Just enough to add a splash of color. As for the rugs, I’m thinking they’re going to have to be a shade of white. You seem to have a good sense of style and decorating, so I know you can make this work. Good luck!

Looking for window treatments that block out all light.?

Question by che che: Looking for window treatments that block out all light.?
My daughter suffers with Migraines and needs complete darkness.
We have tried dark colored mini blind and window shades but even a crack of sunlight is pain full. Are there any ideas from other Migraine sufferers that might help? Any web sites that offer window treatment would be welcome.

You can get black out for your windows its like window tenting on a car but for your home windows it is fairly cheap and u can get it at places like home depot and lowes. I’m sure Walmart even has it and to be on the safe side you can have the blinds up and they have black out shades. And if you just want, try to put velcro on the shades and stick it together.

I hope I helped.

Looking Beyond Window Coverings

In addition to the basics of providing various levels of privacy and illumination control, window coverings also function to complement or give a twist to the look of a room.  Since these can be present on the inside as well as outside of the room, they can deliver similar or varying results depending on the designer’s whim and fancy.

Most common of these external shields are wooden shutters.  Lending a touch of the Southern charm, there is nothing like the sight of plantation shutters adorning a house.  Bamboo chicks and roller-style blinds may not be directly attached to the casements whilst still providing the additional layer.

As their name suggests, the purpose is to somewhat provide some form of casing around the apertures concerned.  In fact, some window coverings may gear more towards the aesthetics as compared to the practical.  By adding draping fabrics to existing curtains, it imparts a feel of the more formal.  It is therefore not a wonder to see these types of decorative ideas being implemented in formal dining halls as compared to family rumpus rooms.  Cornices too are not spared from being applied onto window casements.  In addition to their core purpose of covering up unsightly wiring and concrete surfaces, they are also set up to emphasize the structure of the window.  No different from accentuating one’s eyebrows, this easily changes the look of a room without a repaint or wallpaper job.

On a different note, those of heavier materials help to manipulate noise penetration in addition to illumination control.  Whether it is to reduce traffic hum or minimize voices from leaching out, thick drapes perform a pretty good job.  Window coverings are also mainstays in some regions subject to temperamental weather conditions.  Whenever storm warnings are issued, many buildings get boarded up to protect lives and property.  Once lifted, the temporary shields are removed and it is back to business as usual.
