Can you put a window treatment on a metal door?

Question by Angelique: Can you put a window treatment on a metal door?
My front door is steel with an oval window in it. I want to put a roman shade on it because the late afternoon sun comes in and causes a glare on the TV. My hubby says you can’t put a curtain on a metal door. I’d like to prove him wrong.

They make curtain rods that are magnetic. If you can find one that will hold the kind of window covering you want, you will win!

You can drill and mount any kind of shade you want, but it will have to be permanent. The holes will always be there.

What window treatment should I use for a large window?

Hello. The apartment I moved into has a large window that is approximately 130 inches by 53 inches (LxW). I need something basic that will block out a lot of light. What economical options do you recommend?
Correction: The width is 130 inches and the height is 53 inches. Thanks!

Hello, I bought some drapes from a second hand store and sewing them all together. I added a second fabric at the bottom for length because they were too short but they are beautiful and they work. You could buy inexpensive drapes and do the same thing. Good luck.

Q&A: What kind of window treatments can I do for really tiny windows?

Question by .: What kind of window treatments can I do for really tiny windows?
The windows are in my bathroom on the largest shower wall so a curtain is a must. The windows are not flush with the walls, there’s about a 7″ box/legde. They are 14W” x 36L”. I was going to make some roman shades but I need them to be washable, usually they call for dowels and other wood. Also I have no way of putting hardware in because I’ll be going into the window frame itself.

Here’s what they look like:

Close up of the top…the only wood is the ceiling part and the sides:

What can I do? I’d rather make my own instead of buying. (I’m a seamstress so this is definitely do-able)
Yeah, we have a bit of a strange layout for our apartment.

An hour glass shape on each window or 1/2 a swag on each pane, a panel hanging on the wall in the middle would give the illusion of a bigger window. Use 1 rod for this.

I think your best bet wood be a stick on-not the frosted glass but kind of stained glass effect, not covering the whole pane. The punch of colour will look fantastic against those white tiles and there is minimal maintenance, cleaning and mildew.

Make sure your linens and accessories pick up/contrast the colour in the pattern.

Q&A: What type of window treatment to use for higher than average windows?

Question by Nancy A: What type of window treatment to use for higher than average windows?
I have 2 windows in my bedroom that are 48″ W by 36″ H. The sill is about 55″ off of the floor. I do need them covered completely at times for privacy. I feel that floor length would look odd since there is so much space below window. They seem a little bare w/only a mini blind or roman shade.

Best answer:

Answer by B G
You could use shudders or blinds, but I really think that using floor length curtains isn’t a bad thing. I use floor Length curtains in my basement, and to me, it feels less like a basement because it ‘tricks the eye’. You could also put a dresser underneath the window to make it look as though the window isn’t as high as it really is.
Good Luck

What is the best window shade for a window that’s over my bathtub?

Question by Naz: What is the best window shade for a window that’s over my bathtub?
I have a window that’s over my bathtub and would like some suggestions for window treatment. I have used vinyl shades and they get rusty with all the moisture.

Answer by Diane A
I would consider a good quality window privacy film (this is one: www.wallpaperforwindows.com/pc/home.asp, but if you google privacy film for windows a lot come up). You can get ones that look like the glass is opaque or sandblasted. Another option is to put a decorative panel over the glass inside and mount with quarter round (such as “3 form” varia -www.3-form.com), another is to place a stained glass window inside the window, again mounting with quarter round. Anything else will have trouble with moisture.

Suggestions for Contemporary Window Treatment for Palladian window.?

Question by nonna_barbara: Suggestions for Contemporary Window Treatment for Palladian window.?
I have 2 windows plus a door to my lanai in my 3rd floor FL master bedroom. One of the windows is a large Palladian window. I am totally stumped on what window treatments to use on the windows. I have beautiful water views that I want to be able to see. The only reason for a treatment is privacy in the evening and heat reduction in the summer. I do not need a covering for the door (plenty of privacy).

My decorator wants me to install 3″ Plantation shutters. My furniture is a mix of antiques, including a canopy bed. Floor is porcelain tile and I will be hanging lots of original rather contemporary artwork.

I don’t want the window to take over the room, plus I feel I need something softening due to hard flooring and mostly dark wood furniture (cherry, mahogany, pine, walnut, etc). I have allergies so I can’t add area rugs or anything that will catch a lot of dust.

Does this sound impossible? I would love to hear ideas for unique window treatments.

Best answer:

Answer by M1Lithium
The plantation shutters look like the best/most common solution, probably because it will work. Do the Shutters have to be dark wood? Could they be painted? Or Even Faux painted, they could even have a mural on the face that appears when they are closed, even a mural of the View out the window.

Practical Window Cleaning Tips

You know what they say; windows are the eyes of the home. That is the reason why it’s crucial to maintain them in tiptop condition. They should be free of any defects, as well as dirt, grime, and dust. Squeaky clean windows leave a great impression to any home guests. This article will give you tips regarding how to maintain your windows by cleaning and making them look good as new every time.

First tip is filling a spray bottle with club soda. Spray it on your windows. Then, wipe your windows, as well as the glass, with a clean rag or paper towel. Afterwards, you must pour vinegar and water solution into the bottle. The water and vinegar must be in equal amounts and you must mix them together very well. You can also spray the solution on the window surface then wipe it with another rag. Then, have a squeegee dipped in water and use it in cleaning your windows. You may also opt for mold and milder remover for dirt that are a pain to get rid of.

Next option is mixing two cups of baking soda with ample amount of water to make a thick paste. Use such solution to coat the window ledge. Let it sit for about 20 to 30 minutes before you rinse it with a soft rag. Go for circular motions to dodge streaking the windows. Rinse it using the vinegar and water solution so as to remove residue and to disinfect the windows, as well.

See to it that you clean the windows at least four times every given year. If it usually gets dirty, then clean it more often. It doesn’t matter whether you have single-hung windows or double-hung windows with sash windows. It’s always crucial to maintain the windows and sash windows as much as possible.

Cleaning is not a lovable task to all. Albeit it may be tiring and tedious, we should always see to it that we clean our windows. Windows that are not taken properly deteriorate more easily, just so you know.

How do you frame a stained glass window panel without blocking image ?

Question by A d: How do you frame a stained glass window panel without blocking image ?
Stained glass panel is 37.5″ high x 23.5″ wide. Will install it as part of a window treatment (incorporated as part of a custom-made window). Will not be suspended and needs to be framed prior to incorporating it to the window itself. Thanks for your prompt response !

Answer by Knowitall

To answer this a glazier like me must know:
What you are doing with the piece of glass specifically ? Did you have new windows put in ? The existing windows, are they dual or single payne ? Do you have a aluminum or wood frames there now & which would you prefer. I take it this is a type of picture window or very large bathroom window ? To give an answer I got to know what your doing. You can have a very thin frame however you will have to sacrafice atleast 1/4inch of the glass all way round to have a secure window. Glass is made sturdy by rubber on frame.

Now if you mean it needs to be a dual payne ? Take the window to a glass shop that makes insulated windows or energy efficent they call them. They will needs whats called an overall measurement which is the thickness the glass should be for the frame/setting. They will make you the unit w/ whatever glass you choose for the other side.

Best to call a glass company/glazier for the best outcome on whatever your customizing. Carpenter or framer will not deliver what you want.
