Q&A: What window treatment situation would you suggest on two close windows?

Question by Stephanie Roynestad: What window treatment situation would you suggest on two close windows?
I have three “standard” windows in my living room. I haven’t measured them, I can’t find my tape measure, but they are probably 3 feet wide by 4 feet tall. Two of them are close together (with maybe an inch or two between) and the other one is by itself, all on the same wall. What would you suggest I do about curtain panels and rods? I don’t know if there’s enough room on the two windows that are close to use two rods. Would it look funny with one LONG rod? If I did one long rod, should I use just two panels, one for each window, or four panels, two for each window? I was planning on doing two panels on the one window by itself. I am really not good at style and decor! We’ve had nothing but $ 2.99 blinds on our windows for 3 years!

One long rod on the two windows would look fine. The closer you put the rod to the ceiling will make the window look larger. Myself, I would probably use sheers because I am not a fan of drapery. I would fill the rod with a bunch of coordinating color sheers. Use whatever colors match your decor and hang them alternating, antique white and beige, for example. Or pick two colors that are opposites from your decor like purple and white.
If you need privacy at the window, hang bamboo blinds.

This pic shows what I mean by hanging the colors alternating only i would do this all the way across the rod.

Window treatment ideas?

Question by Samantha: Window treatment ideas?
We bought a new house couple months ago and the house has 13 windows, it’s crazy and we decided to buy some roman blinds for the rooms that way we don’t have to put up any curtains and bought some white wood blinds for the livingroom, family room and kitchen area. Now I was thinking about putting valance ( I think that’s what they’re called, the top part only) over the bay window and maybe some light curtains on the rest of the windows. I wanted some ideas, also can you leave it alone and not put any curtains since we have these nice wood blinds or its must to cover them up? The hardest thing is the bay window so far..

Best answer:

Answer by Morgan
One of the newest trends in design is to leave the windows uncovered! It lets light in & is very uncluttered. The only rule is that you only leave windows open where people aren’t looking in on you. So if your bathroom or bedroom faces the street or your neighbor’s yard–then cover those up. (Frosted windows look cool in bathrooms. You can buy sheets of window “frosting” at any hardware store. It’s easy to put on.)

Just do standard flatĀ panelĀ curtains in a really great fabric. You can easily make your own curtains even if you don’t sew using hot glue or heming tape & an iron.

If you can, leave the bay window open. They’re so pretty!

I love the look of Hunter Douglas Silhouette blinds. They also roll completely into the header for a clear view of your window for the days you want to just open everything up and look out your windows.

The 2011-2016 Outlook for Woven Cotton Window Curtains Excluding Custom Made Curtains in Japan

The 2011-2016 Outlook for Woven Cotton Window Curtains Excluding Custom Made Curtains in Japan

The 2011-2016 Outlook for Woven Cotton Window Curtains Excluding Custom Made Curtains in Japan

This econometric study covers the latent demand outlook for woven cotton window curtains excluding custom made curtains across the prefectures and cities of Japan. Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 1,000 cities in Japan. For each city in question, the percent share the city is of it’s prefecture and of Japan is reported. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city vis-a-vis others. This statistical approach can prove very useful to distribution and/or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each prefecture and city, latent demand estimates are created for woven cotton window curtains excluding custom made curtains. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

This study does not report actual sales data (which are simply unavailable, in a comparable or consistent manner in virtually all of the cities in Japan). This study gives, however, my estimates for the latent demand, or the P.I.E., for woven cotton window curtains excluding custom made curtains in Japan. It also shows how the P.I.E. is divided and concentrated across the cities and regional markets of Japan. For each prefecture, I also show my estimates of how the P.I.E. grows over time. In order to make these estimates, a multi-stage methodology was employed that is often taught in courses on strategic planning at graduate schools of business.

What can I put up as window treatment on vertical blinds?

Question by _: What can I put up as window treatment on vertical blinds?

Best answer:

Answer by Kathy P
I have verticals on french doors in my den. To soften the look, I made two stationery panels and put them on either side. This allows me to still open the door and when the verticals are open they are hidden behind the stationery panel.

You could also put a valance up but for anything you do you need to remember that the track for the verticals comes out approx. 6-7 inches, so you would need a rod that has at least that depth.

Q&A: Oversized Foyer Window Treatment?

Question by Stacey S: Oversized Foyer Window Treatment?
I have a large window above my entryway door. The window faces west and we want to install a covering that will block out the sunlight. If I install drapes, do they have to extend all the way to the floor, or can they stop at the base of the window? We have double doors and the window is basically as wide as the doorway, nearly as tall as the doorway and has an arched top that is not a separate window. We want to cover the entire window and also have a window covering that will allow us to open the window as much as possible.

I would use PVC pipe for a curtain rod, and make the curtains to fit just the window itself. If it is possible to use a tension rod you could do that.

If it is a really big window how about a shower tension rod and paint it what ever color you want .

DIY – Hanging Window Treatments?

Question by kitkat_137: DIY – Hanging Window Treatments?
I just bought a new house; but, there are no window coverings (or fittings) existing. I would like to hang curtains and perhaps blinds in the windows; but, I don’t know how to measure appropriately so that the rod is well-placed and the curtains are long enough. Any advice?

Best answer:

Answer by boredstiff8
Yes, one thing you may want to know is when securing the brackets to the wall you want to secure the screws into wood.. There normally will be wood behind the sheetrock within 2″ along both sides of the window and up to the ceiling. If you try to spread the brackets farther apart the rod will fall down and you will have holes in the wall.

HOME DECOR – What type of blinds/window treatment should I use for the window in my front door?

Question by J A: HOME DECOR – What type of blinds/window treatment should I use for the window in my front door?
I have an exterior (front) door with some glazing/a window in it, approx 24″ x 36″ in size. For privacy/security reasons I need to cover over this window at night. I haven’t yet been able to find anything suitable – light enough, easy enough to open, easy to install on the door. Does anyone make blinds or covers specifically for this purpose? Or has anyone come up with a DIY solution?

Best answer:

Answer by Elspeth
I’ve seen some blinds advertised for doors that are encased in two panes of glass. They don’t need dusting. They can be pulled up to enjoy the view or lowered to provide privacy. I’m not sure what company makes them, but I think I saw it on HGTV.

A DIY solution: You could hang drapes across the top of the door with tie backs that could be drawn at night. Sorta like a victorian parlor treatment.

Hope that helps.
