Q&A: What type of window treatment to use for higher than average windows?

Question by Nancy A: What type of window treatment to use for higher than average windows?
I have 2 windows in my bedroom that are 48″ W by 36″ H. The sill is about 55″ off of the floor. I do need them covered completely at times for privacy. I feel that floor length would look odd since there is so much space below window. They seem a little bare w/only a mini blind or roman shade.

You could use shudders or blinds, but I really think that using floor length curtains isn’t a bad thing. I use floor Length curtains in my basement, and to me, it feels less like a basement because it ‘tricks the eye’. You could also put a dresser underneath the window to make it look as though the window isn’t as high as it really is.
Good Luck

3 windows on one wall, do I use the same treatment?

Question by imgwtwfan: 3 windows on one wall, do I use the same treatment?
2 windows 1 slider on one wall (the slider is in the middle) for dining room & living room, should the same treatment be used for all 3 or is different ones OK? Privacy is an issue as well.

Best answer:

Answer by Kos
Well It depends on how the rest of the house is done.
But Im wondering what treatment your talking about.
If you mean like blinds or things like that.
For the most part the answer would be yes
You want the wall to flow along (If you get my drift)
If you want to change anything make sure the windows are the same but the slider can be different. Or you could add some of the treatment from windows to the slider to bring it together.
If you ment something different e-mail me
Good Luck

Q&A: What window treatment situation would you suggest on two close windows?

Question by Stephanie Roynestad: What window treatment situation would you suggest on two close windows?
I have three “standard” windows in my living room. I haven’t measured them, I can’t find my tape measure, but they are probably 3 feet wide by 4 feet tall. Two of them are close together (with maybe an inch or two between) and the other one is by itself, all on the same wall. What would you suggest I do about curtain panels and rods? I don’t know if there’s enough room on the two windows that are close to use two rods. Would it look funny with one LONG rod? If I did one long rod, should I use just two panels, one for each window, or four panels, two for each window? I was planning on doing two panels on the one window by itself. I am really not good at style and decor! We’ve had nothing but $ 2.99 blinds on our windows for 3 years!

Answer by Sword Lily
One long rod on the two windows would look fine. The closer you put the rod to the ceiling will make the window look larger. Myself, I would probably use sheers because I am not a fan of drapery. I would fill the rod with a bunch of coordinating color sheers. Use whatever colors match your decor and hang them alternating, antique white and beige, for example. Or pick two colors that are opposites from your decor like purple and white.
If you need privacy at the window, hang bamboo blinds.

This pic shows what I mean by hanging the colors alternating only i would do this all the way across the rod.

Achieve The Window Of Your Dreams

It is always a fun experience when you renovate a room. But the enjoyment is multiplied if it is the whole house you are planning to redecorate. Canvassing new sofas, picking out spacious cabinets, selecting the wallpaper and flooring and adding a little touch of personality and character to the design are just a few of the many other things you will have to think of. With all those hustle and bustle, the very one thing that is of great importance but only gets the least attention are the windows.

Let us say you are going for a clean and casual look. It is suggested that you opt for simple curtains with shades that are tie-up in style. A box pleated valance that is hung over a blind could also be good. If you are aiming for a more formal look then you can go all out with long drapes, pleated panels and sheer fabrics. However, one must not set aside function in order to pave way for style. If you can put it together then that would just be dreamy.

When you talk about function, you touch the areas of light control. You placed those curtains there in the purpose of shielding the things inside the room from too much sunlight. Some carpets and furniture are light sensitive. You would not want those things to rot immediately. Window treatments are also placed to provide privacy. Of course you can open it up during the day to welcome fresh air and natural light. But come the night or intimate events within the home, long drapes with roller shades would come in very handy. Lastly, think about safety. If you have kids running around or grandparents who walk small steps, then long drapes would be out of the picture. It could wrap the children around or it could be slippery for the elderly. It is also an attractive chew toy for pets if ever you have one at home.

There are numerous window treatment styles out their available at your expense. It is the manner of handling your windows the right way. From putting it up, choosing the borders and finally the style that you want to obtain. The windows may come off as a tiny part of the huge room but for your information, it is actually the one responsible for making the entire place look put together.

Choose Aluminum Awning Windows

Usually, the first thing that comes to mind to those people who desire to put up sunshades on their patio or front yard are the ones made out of fabric. The flow of the cloth adds effect and drama, the designs are pretty and the color choices are endless. However, more and more materials are starting to emerge from the back. One perfect example are the aluminum awnings.

Aluminum awnings are creating such a buzz these days. It is becoming popular among home improvement experts. The use of it is one latest concept in terms of home design. This is far from the typical fabricated ones on a regular window. It can even be misinterpreted as a plain window aside from the colors for they also come in darker shades. Which makes it better because it is helping in maximizing the capacity to block extreme sunlight that penetrates the home. But what makes it more better is that even though it is dark, it still provides you with a clear view from the inside. This window type also have its own hinges where you can open if you are in the mood for fresh air to swing in or maybe a hint of sun to lighten up the room. The control is placed all on you. Moreover, since people nowadays put a lot of importance on style and trend, then these aluminum awnings were also made to serve you that. They also come in different designs that will perfectly fit the specific rooms of your home. There are jalousie look-alikes, small squares, medium squares and even floor to ceiling ones.

The home is a place of comfort and relaxation. It should be made that way especially for the people living in it. There is in fact a variety of choices to choose from and this is just one of them. If you are still puzzled and have not made up your mind just yet, then it would not hurt if you take into consideration the use of aluminum awning windows. It has every little detail that one looks for in designing their homes.

I’m looking for window treatment ideas for our sidelight windows. ?

Question by Panda02: I’m looking for window treatment ideas for our sidelight windows. ?
We have two sidelight windows and I would like a little more privacy. It creeps me out that people can walk up to the door and see all the way into our living room. Other than wood blinds, do you have any suggestions? Are the sheers with the tension rods kind of outdated or is that still used a lot? Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Juan M

I have 2 sidelights next to my front door, both are about 6 ft tall by 8 in wide & are clear glass, starting at a few inches above the floor. I would like to cover them to add a little ‘something’ to my foyer but also because it drives me crazy that anyone walking in front of or up to the house can see directly in, all the way into my family room which is behind the foyer.

I was originally going to do the ‘traditional’ sidelight sheers that are sort of bunchy the top & bottom rods, but then thought perhaps that was a dated look. I know some people do blinds, but we don’t have blinds on any of our other downstairs windows .

Can you combine floor length drapes and window shades on different windows in one room?

Question by samdollylama: Can you combine floor length drapes and window shades on different windows in one room?
My bedroom has two sliding doors to the patio for which I already have gorgeous silk draperies. I added two windows and don’t want to go to the expense of getting silk draperies for two small windows. Besides, I think it would be too much fabric. Has anyone seen two different types of window treatments in one room?

Best answer:

Answer by ShouldBeWorking
As long as they go together, not necessarily match but go together, I like it better.

If your silk drapes are a solid color, you could do floral or striped roman shades, picking up on the color of the silk.If the silk is floral or stripe ,use a solid color shade.

If privacy is an issue I would go with blinds. You can let in light without giving up your privacy. They come in so many colors today. Those I would match to the wall color so they don’t really stand out.
